Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)
Presurgical Neuropsychological Evaluations
We conduct neuropsychological evaluations to help determine if DBS surgery is safe and appropriate for you. Your neurosurgeon and neurologist will gain a clearer picture of your cognitive strengths and weaknesses to assist with your treatment planning.
Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Evaluations
DBS presurgical evaluations are often required for several reasons:
To confirm that the pattern of cognitive strengths and weaknesses are consistent with Parkinson’s disease and not another disorder
To determine if cognitive or emotional challenges may contraindicate DBS
To determine if the individual can:
understand the procedure (including risks and benefits)
express their goals
provide consent
follow through with pre and post-operative instructions
To provide the information that may impact descision making about surgical placement
Neuropsychological evaluations are an important screening process for DBS surgery. Contact us to learn more about special scheduling and collaboration with your neurosurgery team.
