<image:title>Home - Dr. Alison Tverdov is a board certified clinical neuropsychologist.</image:title>
<image:caption>When I first opened the practice in 2018, I was a solo practitioner. Since then, I have grown a team of clinicians whose aim is to improve the lives of those with neurological conditions and the lives of their families. In addition to neuropsychology and counseling, we also offer speech-language pathology and functional skills training services. For quite some time, I have wanted a practice name that better captures our services. I felt the name NJ Psychological Services did not match our mission. In 2023, I rebranded the practice to NeuroCog Solutions. This brand change better reflects our services which assess neurocognitive skills and provide practical solutions to improve everyday life. Thank you for trusting us with your care. -Dr. Alison Tverdov</image:caption>

<image:title>Stroke/Vascular - A stroke causes acute cognitive symptoms (whether it is a blockage or rupture). Patients have a loss of functioning, but may remain stable over time unless another stroke occurs.</image:title>
<image:caption>Vascular dementia gradually worsens over time. Neuroimaging (MRI scan) may show small vessel ischemic disease (or white matter changes) beyond the effects of normal aging. Atherosclerosis is often a factor in vascular dementia. The blood vessels can accumulate plaque, inflammation, and chronic damage over the years. Chronic microbleeds or lack of sufficient blood flow over time causes a progressive decline. Vascular dementia is associated with lifestyle and health factors as shown on the right. Individuals can suffer acute stroke in addition to chronic slow changes over time.</image:caption>

<image:title>Frontotemporal dementia - Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) affects the frontal and temporal lobes in the brain. An abnormal protein, tau, causes cell death and brain shrinkage (atrophy). The onset of this dementia is often earlier than other types, with the majority of individuals first symptoms appearing between ages 45-65. As with other types of dementias, FTD has an insidious onset and gradual progression, but rate of decline in functioning tends to be faster than in other types of dementias. FTD is less prevalent than Alzheimer’s disease.</image:title>
